Hi,
Let me apologize first for posting here. Actually, I am really confused where to post my msg. I am suspecting my problem is Hardware related .Moreover as there is no specific section for OS problems in this forum. So, I am posting here. Plz pardon me if I would have a better place to post this msg.
When I tried to install Linux (Red Hat,Mendrack, Susee) some days ago, I failed due to an unknown reason. Red Hat installation (version 7.0,8.0 & 9.0, i didn't try 10.0 yet) stucks with a msg posix is checking unifix each time I tried to installl linux in my machine. Mendrack and Susee installations can't go upto there where Redhat can. They restarts after just start loading the installer again and again. I tried to find a solution in all possible ways (Giving a whole night to complete the posix check,Searching internet,Posting into linux forum), but culdn't find a way and I give up.
Recently, I upgrade my BIOS after suffering a lot, to support large HDD and RAM and the problems are solved. Now when I've tried to Upgrade my OS from Windows 98Se ( I am using it since 1998, when I first bought my PC) to Windows XP, I've encountered almost similar problem as the Mendrack/Susee Linux installation. After copying all the files when XP Setup reboots for the first time, It immediately restarts when just start loading Windows XP. After several try, It gives a msg to disable Video Shadowing in the BIOS (if any). I found into my BIOS setting that there is a shadowing enabled for Video RAM and disable that. Though the problem isn't solved. And after trying several times I gave up and decided to install Windows 2000 instead. But it caused similar problem like Redhat installation. After copying all the files when Setup reboots for the first time, It stucks after displaying the startup logo for Win2K. Give many tries but can't resolve the problem. I am suspecting all these problems are caused for a (unknown) hardware problem. If anyone recovered from such problem or have any idea about how to solve this plz reply.
