Praktica DCZ 8 LM and TWAIN driver problem (I think)

I have a new Praktica DCZ 8 LM digital camera. I have downpoaded the software CD. When I attach this to my PC through Presto! Videoworks or Presto! Mr Photo it states 'No Device Attached' under Digital Camera TWAIN Driver. Other messages show 'The Device Encountered An Internal Error. Please Try Again', and also 'Cannot Start Twain Driver Please Ensure Hardware Drivers Are Installed Properly'.
It appears that all devices are working properly when I check on Device Manager. I haven't a clue what Twain is or does. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction to get my camera operational.
