IP address is lost continually

Hi, Experiencing IP problems, despite setting computer to automatically obtain IP address, it seems everytime I need to go online I am unable to do so,my computer connection is lost then I have to either `disable then enable my connection which usually then informs me that it is attempting to obtain IP address-which it either does or then I resort to a program I downloaded from the internet ~Winsock,which I have found invaluable as it repairs my registry. Have you any idea why this is happening. OP Windows XP proff. service pack 3, disabled Windows firewall,installed PC Tools Anti-virus?Firewall/Wireless connection to my desktop, Thanks Dave

Hi, are you connecting via a cable or wirelessly?

Are you using a router to connect to the internet?

Hi, I originally answered this question in reply to my first query but I didn`t get any responce after I did this=-the router (Netgear WGT624 v3 Firewall Router) is connected by wire to the NTL modem. Ihave installed PC Tools Firewall?anti-virus which I have allowed access through,O/P system Windows XP Proff ,S/Pack 3,
