I see this problem going on here alot. I reformatted this computer and no sound works what so ever. I'm not a high-tech expert. In fact I'm not really computer friendly when it comes to the actual system but I thought I could breeze my way through this. Six days later and I'm going grey and I'm only 21.

I'm pretty sure this thing doesn't have a soundcard so that means it's a motherboard problem right? Well then I'm an idiot and posted in the wrong forum.

I run XP. The motherboard in here is an ECS Elitegroup K7SEM 15-AO1-013010 REV:3.0A

I've been going nuts trying to install the right drivers but the K7SEM 3.0A ones I downloaded off of ECS still aren't working for me.

I get this Windows media error. Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

I have no understanding to this. My sound devices don't have some big yellow exclamation mark beside them but my sound settings aren't detecting a sound device.

Help?

if in doubt cheat :oops:

your sound card is listed as the sis 7018

before you do anything else make sure your running direct x 9 most new drivers now need this installed or they don't work.

once thats installed click this link choose your o/s , audio , 7018

that driver should get things working for you.

Alright, so I downloaded that DirectX 9 which I believe comes as DXwebsetup.exe and I downloaded the SiS 7018 audio driver but still no dice. I even double checked and made sure I was doing everything properly.

I appreciate the help Davey, is there any other options we can go?

ok go into device manager and see if your sound has a problem.

click start , control panel , double click system icon, hardware tab, device manager.

open up the sound , video , game controllers.

see what is listed in that section.

you should see the sis sound listed there if the driver installed
