Superfluous attachments in incoming email

Nearly, but not quite, all my incoming emails show with a paper-clip. Of those with paper-clip, in every case it means there`s an atachment, but nearly all of those attachments are just a repeat of the message in the body of the email.

I`ve been through some upheavals lately, including re-installing AVG free anti-virus package and going over to Talktalk broadband. Talktalk has behaved very patchily and irritatingly these last few days. I had the attachment-problem once before: it was something to do with an update on AVG I think.

Any solutions ?
