Hp optical ps/2 mouse

I just bought a new computer. It is a HP pavilion a 230n. I came with win xp installed. The salesman switched our mouse for us because he originally gave us some wrong info with the mouse. the mouse he gave us is an HP optical ps/2 mouse. As I am using the computer, the mouse jumps, almost like a magnet is pulling it in different directions. I think I need a new mouse driver, but I don't want to blow up my system just yet. I have been looking for drivers but I am unable to find one for this mouse. (I even went to the hp website, but I could not find any)

Does anyone know where I can download the correct driver? I have tried the default driver and the logitect ps/2 driver that is installed and they both act the same.

I have not tried to switch the mouse yet (I am going to do that on the next reboot).

Sounds like a faulty mouse to me

Try another mouse and see if it does the same thing. I assume this is a wired rather than wireless mouse?

Yes, this is a wired mouse, not a usb.

I will try my other mouse in a little while.

Well, I just rebooted and changed my mouse and so far no jumping =o}

looks like I will be taking another trip to the store!
