Sandisk Cruzer not recognised by XP

My Sandisk 512mb Cruzer is driving me nuts. Some versions of XP will recognise it, while others don't. Sandisk has a driver for it, which XP refuses to load, saying XP needs no extra drivers. Aaargh!! Help me.

check what service pack the pc that works is running.

i have a feeling you may need to update to service pack 2 as this adds the usb 2 support for xp.

You may have nailed it in one. My IBM laptop is my writing tool and never gets anywhere near a phone line. I'll download SP2 and see what happens.

Thanks, Davey, but I already tried that. I am more inclined to believe that the weakness lies in U3, if that is the name of the recent software designed to improve security for flash memory. As I think I said before, I am mystified how other flash thumbdrives - Intuix being my newest - work like a charm on my old IBM - while Cruzer will not. I am inclined to believe Cruzer needs a driver update, as it appears not even to work under USB1.1.

Which version of the Cruzer do you have, the model number should be SDCZx where x is 1,2,3,4 or Y.

Hi Taz, The serial on my 512mb Cruzer is SDCZ4. Does this have any special significance?

I'm having the same trouble. # is SDCZ2-1024 It's a 1.0 GB Stick. Also using win XP Pro with Serv Pack 2

try doing this it may get those trouble some pens working.

click this link and download the windows 98se driver.
http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1093

do not use the self install.
unpack the driver with winzip in to a folder on your desktop.

now plug your pen in, if windows starts to moan about a driver and starts the wizard choose don't search i want to choose what driver to install.

now browse to that folder you just unpacked that driver in to and click next if your lucky windows will use the 98se driver.
