PackBELL - nO sOUND

Can anyone help please. Packard Bell desktop S/N032247020158.New H/Drive fitted and Windows xp loaded. All works well - no sound. Checked P/B site downloaded driver for SigmaTelC-Major(STAC97N) for SIS audio driver. Device manager shows nothing missing but still no sound. Where can I go from here?

click start , control panel , sound and audio devices.
click the audio tab.
does windows list the SigmaTel as default playback device ?
if not use the pull down menu and select it.
click apply and ok restart the pc.
would be a good idea to check to make sure your speakers are not at fault as well , and that the volume is turned up and not muted on the pc.
