no sound on pc...help please..

hi,my brother bought a computer and decided to format it to clear all the rubbish out,,the trouble now is he cant get any sound,i asked him what make the pc was and he said there is no name on the pc to identfy it..i told him to got into" device manager"to see if he could see anything to do with sound cards /audio..he said that there was and the name was "legacy"...hes running win xp and its a desktop pc..i think the guy he bought the pc from had built it his self...is there anywhere i could get a sound driver for a "legacy"....kind regards theted...

The "Legacy Audio" driver is installed automatically by Windows but it isn't the driver for the sound card.

Is there anything showing in device manager with a yellow explanation mark next to it, usually labelled Unknown device?

You could try running Everest and see if that can tell you what make/model of sound card it is.
